Referral Process
At Prism Eye Institute, we’re a specialized eye care clinic. To see one of our doctors, you’ll need a referral from your primary eye care provider (optometrist).
If you don’t already have an optometrist, your first step is to schedule an eye exam with one. During your visit, the optometrist will examine your eyes, determine what’s going on, and then send a referral to the appropriate specialist at Prism for further care.
Most of the tests and procedures performed at Prism are covered by OHIP. However, in some cases, your doctor may recommend additional non-OHIP tests to get a more detailed view of your eye health. These specialized tests help your doctor better understand your condition and create the most effective treatment plan for you.
Private and Cosmetic Services
Referrals are not required for private or cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery, Botox, and dermal fillers. You can book these services directly with our Eye Aesthetics team.
Whether you’re a new patient, a referring doctor, or someone who’s already been referred, we’ve made the process simple. Choose the path that applies to you below to get started:

What Happens Next
Scheduling timelines can vary depending on your condition. If you have not yet been contacted regarding your appointment, please email us at info@prismeye.ca and our team will be happy to assist.
Preparing for Your Appointment:
- Please bring your health card, glasses, and a list of your current medications.
- During your visit, your eyes may be dilated to allow the doctor to fully examine the back of your eyes. Dilation can cause blurred vision and light sensitivity for several hours afterward. Each person reacts differently, so it is up to you to decide if you would like to arrange a driver for your return home.
