When your vision and nervous system intersect, we’re here.
Being referred to neuro-ophthalmology can feel overwhelming — but you’re in the right place. This specialty focuses on how your eyes and brain work together, especially when something isn’t functioning as it should. We take the time to understand both your vision and your overall neurological health so we can get to the root of the issue.
Why Was I Referred?
You may have been referred to neuro-ophthalmology if you’re experiencing:
Unexplained vision loss Double vision Visual field defects (missing areas in your vision) Persistent headaches affecting vision Optic nerve concerns (like swelling or damage) Droopy eyelids or abnormal eye movements Neurological conditions impacting vision (e.g., stroke, MS)
Sometimes, your optometrist or physician sees something subtle; and this referral is the next step in getting answers.
What Happens at My Appointment?
Your visit may be longer than a routine eye exam; and that’s intentional.
We focus on a detailed assessment that may include:
A full review of your medical and vision history
Vision and visual field testing
Eye movement and alignment testing
Pupil & optic nerve evaluation
Imaging review (MRI/CT scans, if already done)
Not every test is needed for every patient; your exam is tailored to you.
Do I Need to Prepare?
To make the most of your visit, please bring: Any recent imaging reports (MRI, CT scans) A list of medications Your glasses or contact lenses Referral notes (if provided) Expect to be here a little longer than usual; thorough care takes time.
