Seeing an eye specialist can feel overwhelming; especially if you’re not sure where to start. This page walks you through exactly what to expect, whether you’re:
A new patient without a referral
A patient who has already been referred
Our Ophthalmologists take appointments by referral from Optometrists or family doctors. If you do not have an Optometrist, you can find one in your area on the College of Optometrists of Ontario Website or you can request an appointment with a Prism Optometrist here.
How it works at Prism
1
Your referral is sent
Your optometrist, family doctor, or specialist sends us your referral with the reason for your visit and any relevant medical information.
2
We review & triage
Our clinical team carefully reviews every referral. Appointments are booked based on medical urgency, not just order received.
3
We contact you
Once your referral is processed, our team will reach out to schedule your appointment. You’ll receive your appointment details along with any instructions specific to your visit.
Our goal is simple: make accessing expert eye care clear, calm, and easy.
How Long does it take?
Wait times vary depending on:
The urgency of your condition
The specialty you’re referred to (retina, neuro, cataract, etc.)
Testing or imaging required
Private and Cosmetic Services
Referrals are not required for private or cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery, Botox, and dermal fillers. You can book these services directly with our Eye Aesthetics team.
