Plan your time
Appointments can range from 1–3 hours, depending on:
testing required, dilation, complexity of your condition
We recommend planning ahead and allowing extra time.
Your visit may be more in-depth than a routine eye exam; here’s how to come prepared.
What to bring?

Yes, continue your normal routine unless told otherwise.
Absolutely, especially if you expect dilation, need support, help remembering information or help with translating.
While every visit is different, most include: Check-in, registration, history review, diagnostic testing, examination with the doctor, discussion of findings & next steps.
During your visit, you may have dilating drops placed in your eyes. These drops temporarily widen (dilate) your pupils so your eye care team can get a clearer, more detailed view of the back of your eye; including the retina and optic nerve.
This is an important part of the exam because it helps us:
Check for early signs of eye disease that may not cause symptoms yet
Get a more complete assessment of your eye health
Support accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions
What to expect after dilation:
Blurry or “out of focus” vision, especially up close
Increased sensitivity to light
These effects are temporary and usually wear off over a few hours, sometimes longer depending on the individual.
A few helpful tips:
Bring sunglasses for comfort after your visit
Consider arranging a driver or transportation home, especially if you’re sensitive to light or not comfortable driving with blurry near vision
We truly appreciate your time and commitment to your care, and we strive to see all patients as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
To help us do this fairly for everyone, we kindly ask that you respect your scheduled appointment times for both testing and doctor visits.
We understand that unexpected situations can arise, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep care timely and accessible for all patients.
