About Dr. Schlenker

Dr. Matt Schlenker is a Cataract, Glaucoma, and Anterior Segment Surgeon and Researcher affiliated with University Health Network, Kensington Eye Institute, and Trillium Health Partners. He is also a Clinician Scientist at the Institute for Better Health and an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto.

Originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Dr. Schlenker began his academic journey at Yale University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He later completed his medical degree with Honours at the University of Toronto, where he served as Class President and received the Cressy Leadership Award. He went on to complete his Ophthalmology Residency (serving as Chief Resident) and advanced fellowship training in Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Surgery at Trillium Health Partners. He also holds a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from Harvard University.

Dr. Schlenker’s clinical and research work is focused on improving outcomes for patients undergoing cataract and glaucoma surgery. He specializes in using advanced data analysis and patient-reported outcomes to guide personalized treatment decisions, ensuring care plans are both evidence-based and aligned with each patient’s goals.

He currently leads the Glaucoma Service at Toronto Western Hospital and serves as Chair of Resident Research at the University of Toronto. A recipient of Canadian Institutes of Health Research funding, Dr. Schlenker regularly presents at national and international conferences and has published in leading peer-reviewed medical journals.
